“When a child is disobedient, the parent or one in charge instinctively becomes annoyed, even irritable. Disobedience is difficult to handle because it can affect so much. It can disturb lives, family situations, and in many ways, be destructive in workplaces. Disobedience is tolerated many times because the individual or individuals are considered incorrigible, defiant, and lack conscience.
There is so little understanding in your time, of sound moral values and sound moral standards, and in many places of business there is much laxness regarding moral ethics. Throughout the world there is much justification of immorality, impurity, weaknesses of the mind, of the flesh. There is much insincerity, much patronization and much indifference to what is offensive to another human being.
Children are not being taught that obedience has a strength in it, a dignity in it, a humility in it, and demonstrates self-control, self-discipline, self-assurance. There are so many areas of life that are destructive, because few in this, or these places, practice obedience to God’s Rules first, and then to the disciplines that involve respect for other people or for others’ property.
In so-called discussions there is so much justification of getting even, because of what one might feel was the unjust attack on their person or someone close to them, but there is little spoken on what instigated the attack, what motivated the incident, and how it could be resolved in a dignified manner.
Very often, listening to the debating over who was right, who was wrong, sound moral values and sound moral standards are rarely spoken of. Many times there is a great void in the discussion when someone suggests that it all would not have happened, there would not be so much displeasure, if obedience to The Rules were practiced.
Satan enjoys these things, these times, these destructive forces, and makes the most of them by encouraging a lot of input that is disparaging to the sound logic for sound results. The time in which you live is truly a time worse than Sodom and Gomorrah. Satan is relentless in doing all that can be done to encourage those who are weak, to follow in his footsteps.
I am Saint Alphonsus Liguori.”
