“Mankind rarely talks about a very important part of every human being’s will. This part is called, this portion is called ‘conscience’. Man says, ‘I have committed a sin, I know it’s a sin.’ What helps mankind to understand that what he or she did is wrong?
Conscience is a very important part of mankind’s nature, personality and will. The very word says that the individual feels a moral obligation for what is right.
Conscience is a tremendous asset because it immediately instills in the mind that the act, the thought, the example, was right or wrong, moral or immoral, was justified or unjustifiable.
The word ‘conscience’ is very often loosely used, because mankind does not feel the magnitude of this word for its full meaning, in its fullness in respect to the decisions of the will.
Those who read what I have just spoken, I would like them to ask themselves, ‘When was the last time I was aware of my conscience, or do I take this important part of my will, my decisions for granted, and not truly see my conscience as a direct line to the Salvation of my Soul?’
Sometimes man becomes so obsessed by telling other people what is right, what is wrong, what is good, what is bad, that he or she omits the very fact that the other person has a conscience that automatically registers if what they are doing is a moral judgment or an immoral judgment.
Many times people are involved in celebrations involving other people. Something is presented that is totally immoral. The first thing that comes to a man’s mind is: ‘If I partake, I know what the results will be.’ This is conscience. I am Saint Alphonsus Liguori.”
