“I, Saint Alphonsus Liguori, say this openly, in a human way, ‘Do not try to understand God’s Will for man, but follow it.’ Ask yourself today: What is God’s Will for you? Was it just to pray? Was it to act in a certain way? Was it to give honor to Him alone, or was it to perform an act of love for someone close to you, or was it just to be here so you could learn? Ask God what His Will is for you each day, and as you do this keep in mind, it could differ every day. Tomorrow it might change, for tomorrow, you see, if you had followed yesterday in the holding of His Hand, by today you will have grown in a better way. Do you understand? Do you? Yes? No?
“Growing in love with God is a very personal thing, and yet it is a very different thing. Now today, I, Saint Alphonsus say, ‘I will give you but one line to remember until the morrow.’ I will say it slowly so you will remember it, your way:
‘No matter who ignores me, no matter who
deplores me, I want only Your Will, my way;
no matter who rejects me, no matter who
upsets me, I want only Your Will, Your Way;
no matter who tells me untruth, I will forgive
them, Your Way; no matter who causes me
harm, I will say, “I offer it in reparation for a
Soul in Purgatory today.”’
“You say, ‘Saint Alphonsus, that was more than one line.’ I say to you in the way of mankind, ‘I put commas where you would have put periods.’ So be it.”
